Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)

If you have a safeguarding or Prevent concern, you can contact our DSL directly.

Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL):
Christopher Tate
📧 prevent@cherithsimmons.co.uk

You can contact the DSL if:

  • You are worried about your own safety or wellbeing
  • You are concerned about another learner, apprentice, or colleague
  • You are unsure whether something is a safeguarding issue and want advice

You do not need proof — concerns can be raised in confidence.

What Is Safeguarding?

Safeguarding means:

  • Protecting people from abuse, harm and neglect
  • Preventing exploitation, bullying, harassment or discrimination
  • Supporting mental health and emotional wellbeing
  • Ensuring people can learn and work safely

Types of safeguarding concerns may include:

  • Physical, emotional or sexual abuse
  • Neglect or self-neglect
  • Bullying, harassment or hate crime
  • Domestic abuse
  • Financial exploitation
  • Modern slavery or coercion
  • Mental health concerns
  • Radicalisation or extremism

Prevent Duty & Radicalisation

We have a legal responsibility under the Prevent Duty to help prevent people from being drawn into terrorism or extremist ideologies.

Signs may include:

  • Sudden changes in behaviour or beliefs
  • Isolation from peers or support networks
  • Expressing extremist views or narratives
  • Being influenced by online content or individuals

Raising a concern does not mean someone is in trouble — it means support can be offered early.

How to Report a Safeguarding Concern

You can:

  1. Email the DSL at prevent@cherithsimmons.co.uk
  2. Speak to a tutor, assessor, manager or staff member
  3. Use the external support services listed below (you can self-refer)

Confidentiality & Information Sharing

  • All concerns are handled sensitively and professionally
  • Information is shared only when necessary to keep people safe
  • Records are kept securely in line with Data Protection legislation

Our Culture

We promote:

  • Respectful behaviour
  • Inclusive learning environments
  • Professional boundaries
  • Speaking up without fear

Safeguarding is embedded in:

  • Staff training
  • Learner induction

If You’re Unsure — Ask

If something:

  • “Doesn’t feel right”
  • Is worrying you
  • Involves someone’s safety or wellbeing

Report it.
It is always better to ask than to stay silent.
