Employer apprenticeship questions

Can apprenticeships be used to develop existing staff?

Yes, when the employee needs substantial new learning and their role allows them to develop and demonstrate the occupational standard. Prior learning must be assessed.

How much will the employer pay?

It depends on levy status, the apprentice’s circumstances, the funding-band maximum and the rules in force. We confirm the position before any commitment; we do not use a blanket ‘free’ claim.

What time must the employer protect?

The apprentice must receive the off-the-job training required by the current funding rules during paid working time, alongside suitable workplace opportunities and progress reviews.
