Level 7 apprenticeship funding from January 2026
Who may receive government funding for a new Level 7 start and why age, support circumstances and the planned start date must be checked.
The rule in plain English
A Level 7 standard being approved for delivery does not mean every learner can receive government funding. For a new start on or after 1 January 2026, age and specified support circumstances are central to the funding check.
People outside the government-funded group may still need a different development route or a privately funded arrangement that follows the applicable rules. Existing apprentices who started under earlier arrangements are not described by the new-start rule in the same way.
What employers should check
Record the learner’s age on the planned start date and confirm whether the specific exceptions apply. Then check role fit, prior learning, the current standard version, delivery availability and the funding rules in force. Do this before promising a place or publishing recruitment copy that says the programme is funded.

If government funding is not available
An employer can compare a privately funded apprenticeship, another apprenticeship level, professional certification, a short course or structured workplace development. The right choice depends on the capability required, not simply the availability of funding.
